Lama Pizza Day: Our Real-World Testing Ground for Frictionless Commerce

The Lama Team 5 min read

In the FinTech industry, it is very easy to talk about "speed", "scalability", and "real time" in business presentations. However, the true litmus test for any financial infrastructure does not happen in a closed development environment, but on the street, during peak hours, with real users demanding immediacy at the point of sale.

Lama Pizza Week 2026 was designed with a dual purpose. On one hand, to honor the legacy of the historic Bitcoin Pizza Day by bringing digital assets closer to everyday life. On the other, to execute a large-scale commercial and technological exercise designed to put our infrastructure under a real high-demand scenario.

It was not a simple marketing campaign, but a comprehensive operational stress test.

The challenge: Mass deployment in real time

To carry out this exercise, we partnered with leading, high-volume pizzerias in the country, such as La Santa Diabla, HNL, and Tunco Veloz. The operational goal was highly ambitious: to coordinate, validate, and process the deployment of more than 300 pizzas simultaneously and seamlessly.

The flow required a new user to download the app, pass identity verification controls (KYC) in under 3 minutes, receive a digital token, and arrive at the restaurant checkout to redeem it immediately. All of this without creating bottlenecks for merchant staff or waiting times for the customer.

Robust and scalable infrastructure

The success of an operation of this scale lies in the back-end. Unlike traditional platforms that rely on slow clearinghouses or POS terminals with high rejection rates, redemptions during Pizza Week operated by validating transactions through instant digital triggers within the Lama ecosystem.

This ensured that reconciliation among the user, the commercial partner's inventory, and Lama's capital flow happened at the speed of information, demonstrating flawless technical scalability.

The impact in numbers

The campaign not only demonstrated the operational strength of our platform at the point of sale, but also generated massive impact in terms of financial education and brand positioning.

During the execution week, we achieved key results that validate our model:

  • Reach and Education: We reached more than 190,000 people and surpassed 158,000 video views, bringing the message of the new digital economy and the Lama ecosystem to the top of mind of the Salvadoran market.
  • Acquisition and Compliance: At the infrastructure level, the system successfully processed the creation of new accounts, achieving a 43% conversion rate among users who passed our rigorous identity verification filter (KYC) smoothly and without system downtime.
  • Frictionless issuance: Our automated technology instantly generated and delivered one promotional code for each verified account, depositing it directly into the wallets of new active users, ready to be processed at the checkouts of our commercial partners.

Ready for everyday commerce

The results of Lama Pizza Week validate our core thesis: advanced financial technology only makes sense if it works invisibly for both the user and the merchant.

We demonstrated that Lama's technological infrastructure is robust, highly scalable, and does not experience friction under mass demand. If our ecosystem is capable of coordinating logistics, regulatory compliance (KYC), and real-time payment processing for hundreds of users consuming simultaneously across different locations in the country, the conclusion is clear: we are ready to process everyday commerce.

The future of payments is no longer a promise in El Salvador; it is an operational reality, and at Lama, we have already put it to the test.
